Who We Are
Vince Wolfe on the tinwhistle, low whistle, Irish
flute, bodhran (Irish drum), uillean pipes (Irish bagpipes) and harmony
vocals. An up and coming star in the West Coast Celtic scene, Vince
combines a prodigious talent for playing just about anything with graceful
tone, soulful rhythm, and a keen ear for the most interesting corners
of traditional Irish music.
Lewis Santer, on Irish bouzouki, guitar, mandolin
and lead vocals. Lewis has been playing and singing the traditional
music of Ireland and the British Isles for over 15 years and has performed
at folk festivals, clubs and concert halls on the East and West coasts.
Lewis' driving rhythms, contrapuntal lines, and dynamic singing combine
with Vince's playing to bring a richness of sound rarely found in a
duo.
Currently, our most requested band configuration is as a quartet
which is Lewis and Vince plus...
Chris Knepper on fiddle. Chris
is a top level Bay Area Irish fiddler who is much in demand for concerts
and dances. He plays with many other San Francisco based bands, and is also a prolific composer of tunes in the Irish tradition.
Sean Feder, a fiery percussionist well known for his work with Joe Craven, Rita Hoskins,
and other dance and world beat projects. He's also Inspection Operations Director of the organic certification organization, CCOF.
Very occasionaly, when we are lucky enough to get some of their time, we play with... Lee Martin, a top notch Scottish piper with some
of the best rhythm chops around. When playing with Driving With Fergus,
Lee most often plays the Scottish smallpipes, lap-held quiet pipes that
play in a low register.
David Kidron. David is a native of New Zealand; sometimes he lives there and sometimes we manage to get him over here. He has been performing professionally since 1969. With the Australian folk
band the Bushwackers, he toured Europe for 8 years, and he was a member of the critically-acclaimed klezmer ensemble, the Freilachmakers
String Band. David is a soulful Celtic fiddler and also plays the tinwhistle, uillean pipes, and balalaika. We play with him when his gypsy lifestyle permits, and he can be heard on our latest recording, Shalom Ireland.
